DUBROVNIK CITY WALLS

The Old City of Dubrovnik is considered one of the most beautiful walled cities in the world. The wall complex is 1940 meters long and entirely encompasses the historical core. It comprises walls, towers, bastions and forts strategically built over the centuries. Walking on this remarkable witness of Dubrovnik's enviable history is definitely one of the top things to do in Dubrovnik.

WALLS OF STON
Guardians of the Economy
The impassable ramparts of Ston protected the medieval towns of Ston and Mali Ston, the Peljesac peninsula, and most importantly, the Ston saltworks. The salt trade was of great importance for the economy of the Republic of Dubrovnik; therefore, the construction of the Ston defensive system was one of the paramount projects of the former City-State.
Although not completely preserved, the Ston walls are still among the longest walls in Europe.

SOKOL TOWER
A Fort from the Rock
Sokol Tower is a fortress built on a more than 25-meter-high cliff in the region of Konavle. Due to its strategic location, the fort mainly had a defensive role in the past. Once it ceased to have a purpose, a three-hundred-year period of decay followed. In 1966, the Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities acquired the fortress. They have restored it so that visitors can visit it now.

WALLS OF KOTOR
Walls Built by Fairies
Kotor is, without a doubt, the most important medieval town in Montenegro. An impressive medieval fortification system ascending to St. John's fortress at 280 meters above sea level surrounds it. Despite the challenging steepness, climbing is rewarding, given the beautiful views of the town and the Bay of Kotor on the way up.

POCITELJ SETTLEMENT
A Citadel at the Crossroads
Pocitelj is a small fortified settlement in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located on the slope of the hill overlooking the river Neretva. It is a picturesque example of a Bosnian, pre-Ottoman medieval fortification that developed during Ottoman rule. In Pocitelj, a walk uphill is a journey back in time where layers of different periods and cultures unfold before one's eyes.
