Things to do in Dubrovnik - longer stay

Updated: Mar 4

If you plan a short stay in Dubrovnik, like a day or two, check out the things to do in Dubrovnik - short stay post.

For a more extended stay:

  • SAIL OFF TO THE ISLAND OF LOKRUM

Fifteen minutes boat ride from the Old City is an island called Lokrum. It is a perfect escape if you want to avoid crowds concentrated in the Old City, especially if you happen to be there when cruise ships are scheduled to arrive in Dubrovnik. Lokrum is not inhabited but offers several attractions: the former Benedictine Monastery complex, a small lake called the 'Dead sea', a fortress built by Napoleon troupes, beautiful gardens and paths along the island. During the tourist season, you will also find food & beverage amenities. Peacocks and rabbits are scattered around the island, and they will likely be interested in you. Mindfulness and privacy are guaranteed on Lokrum. And if naturism is your life philosophy, you will be glad to hear that there is a nudist beach on the island's southern side. (Just take into consideration that what we here intend for the beach are often rocks).

  • VISIT CAVTAT

Cavtat is a little town situated 20 km southeast of Dubrovnik. It is a charming tourist destination with a seafront walking trail and a historical center with Mediterranean architecture, quaint bars and restaurants. I highly recommend you to dine there. Its relaxing atmosphere and greenery make it a perfect setting for a light lunch, especially during warm months. Cavtat is within easy reach from Dubrovnik. There is a boat connection departing from the Old City of Dubrovnik. You can also take a local bus (number 10). Or you can book our tour that includes Cavtat.

  • DO AS LOCALS DO IN THE LAPAD BAY AREA

The bay of Lapad is the second most popular area in Dubrovnik, after the Old City. It is a meeting place for locals who enjoy their lattes on the Lapad promenade almost daily. The experience often continues with a battery-charging seaside walk. Lapad Bay's Sunset Beach is one of the most famous in Dubrovnik.

  • TAKE A HALF-DAY OR A DAY TRIP FROM DUBROVNIK

The advantage of a vacation in Dubrovnik is that you do not need to go far to explore new countries. For example, Montenegro and Bosnia & Herzegovina are within one hour drive from Dubrovnik. Day trips to those areas are the most popular things to do in Dubrovnik after you finish exploring Dubrovnik itself. There are differently organized day trips that you can take. If you are interested in a private tour with a local driver-guide, you can check our list of private day trips from Dubrovnik.
